A couple of girlfriends and I visited Florida in early February on an impromptu let's-get-the-f-out-of-this-Midwest-town type of trip.

We really did it all -- the multiple sets of bikinis for a three-day trip, the Mexican beers and tequilas, eating all the guac the city has to offer, the playlist consisting only of Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Natasha Bedingfield...

This was a trip that my soul desperately needed -- a soul depleted of girl talks, a constant flow of cocktails, sunshine, warmth, and sand that you just can't seem to get rid of no matter what you do. Oh, and a temporary ass tatt.

Did I mention the ungodly amount of wine?

Other than a few mishaps -- such as accidentally driving to Fort Lauderdale at 12:00 AM, almost trespassing (and potentially getting shot at) and getting pooped on by a seagull -- it was a weekend of nonstop laughter, successful parallel parkings (my girls called it "hot guy driving"), and nourishment of the soul through exploration, new experiences, good food, and great company.

Key West was amazing. The scenery -- the swamps, the ocean, the islands, and the sky --made the 3.5-hour drive feel more like 30 minutes. We saw manatees being fed some yummy fish by nice people, ate some key lime pie, and partied it up on a sunset boat tour with a German guy who kept pointing at the sunset and yelling "MORDOR!". I also learned what an airplane is called in German: Flugzeug.

Miami is unlike any other city I have visited (though I suppose you could say that about any city in the world, haha). The diverse set of cultures, ethnicities, cuisines, mixed with the warm weather and happy people, left a bright, colorful image in my head. I always associated Miami with Flamingo Pink, and this trip confirmed that assumption.

I flew back to my mystery Midwestern town with a heart full of sunshine (or should I say, pocketful of sunshine?) and new memories with people I love. Being single, childless, and 25 -- combined with awareness of my privilege -- led me to another unforgettable trip. While I somewhat dread the thought of becoming a snowbird, I can definitely see myself making an annual trip down South, exploring different parts of Florida. Last year, Tampa. This year, Miami. Next year... who knows!
